Metivest, Ukraine's largest steel company, declared force majeure on shipments to its customers on March 1 due to martial law announced by Ukrainian authorities on February 24.

"We are sorry to inform our customers that the military blockade of Ukrainian seaports and damage to infrastructure may directly impede our ability to perform our contracts," the company statement said.

Além disso, o Banco Nacional da Ucrânia suspendeu os pagamentos-transfronteiriços, o que pode dificultar os pagamentos de contratos por produtores dentro e fora da Ucrânia.

Metivest is Ukraine's largest steel producer, producing about 40 percent of Ukraine's steel. The production of two steel plants (Ilyich and Azovstal) has been suspended recently due to the military conflict, another major steelmaker, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, which produced 23 percent of Ukraine's crude steel last year, about 4.9 million tonnes, also said last week it was cutting production to a minimum. Most other small and medium-sized producers also choose to reduce production or even stop production.
